The ex-candidates ICT Competence course is designed to equip learners with Information and Communication Technology (ICT) skills that are required for end users.
This course has been benchmarked with industry standards to ensure that the learners are equipped with core competencies in the main area of ICT.

At the end of the training, learners should be able to:

1.Describe the place of ICT in contemporary world and how it applies in various sectors and the different types of hardware and software

2.Use the Internet to search for information, communicate with Internet tools like electronic mail, calendar and other social media applications

3.Use a word processor to create and modify the outlook of documents

4.Use spreadsheet software to add data, undertake calculations on the data using formulas and built in functions and summarise such data in graphical format

5.Design powerful presentations using presentation software

6.Create databases, enter record using forms and generate reports using queries

7.Demonstrate understanding of security threats like cyber security and how to protect their hardware and software from harm.

What Will I Learn?

  • The course is entry level and does not have prerequisites. It is practice based and learners will be equipped with relevant ICT skills that will be relevant in further education, day to day use and also form a foundation for those intending to undertake ICT as a career

The goal of this module is to equip learners with skills on how to create powerful presentations, which will have an impact to the audience.

Module 7. Security in ICT?

ICT has permeated many industries and insecurity of data and ICT components is becoming a major point of concern. The goal of this module is to equip learners with knowledge on contemporary issues on ICT security, so that the users can achieve information confidentiality, integrity and availability


  • Specifically, the tools to be used are Microsoft Office 2010 or higher, Open Office Version 4.1.2 or higher, both of which have desktop version. On the online platform, Google Apps will be used for online applications

Target Audience

  • The course targets mainly candidates who have graduated from high schools and are waiting to join tertiary institutions, hence excans name
